What Disabled People Actually Want In Public Disabled Toilets.

What do disabled users really want out of a disabled toilet?  A disabled toilet is used by so many different people and it's really hard having one word to umbrella a list of physical and mental conditions. What about people who are just generally aging and requiring a little more support who are not necessarily disabled. This public toilet has to accommodate everyone's needs.

There are many people who can transfer from wheelchair to toilet and have the ability to use the toilet. Some people may require support from grab rails giving them stability and support whilst others need a lot more assistance. A comfortable height toilet thats not too low is helpful and easy access where there's plenty of space to man over a wheelchair.

There are many disabled users which require a carer and believe it or not don't actually use the toilet. They require something more like a hoist and a changing table. When you change a baby we have public facilities that provide a baby changing unit thats safe and easy to use. However, imagine your a carer or a parent of a fully grown child, adult or teenager who is relies on a carer changing them. Suddenly the carer needs to have a lifting aid like a hoist to lift the user onto the changing table thats suitable to hold the weight of an adult.  The carer needs a spacious room to do so.

The ideal disabled toilet facility should be a combined disabled toilet and changing room. Which the toilet has all the essentials in a doc m pack. This meets the requirements of a majority of elderly and more able users and a changing table with hoist for people who are less able to use the bathroom on their own.
